These are sample applications.  Completing the following forms will not SUBMIT an online application.  You may also use these forms to apply to become a notary in another county in Georgia.

In order to become a notary public of the State of Georgia for Decatur County, you must:

  

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Be a resident of Georgia
  • Be a resident of Decatur County
  • Be a resident of state bordering Georgia who carries on a business or profession Decatur County
  • Be able to read and write the English language

  

Additionally:

You will be required to sign and swear or affirm to the truthfulness of the information you provide on the application.

  

You will be required to state on the application form all criminal convictions you have have, including any plea of nolo contendre, except minor traffic violations.

You will be required to have endorsements of two people who are not your relatives, who are 18 years old and who reside in Decatur County, stating that you are a person of integrity, good moral character, and capable of performing notarial acts.

  

The application (or renewal) fee for a notary public is ***$162.00*** which may be made with cash, money orders, or personal checks from within the State of Georgia.

  

**Please Note the increase from $37.00 to $162.00 comes out of HB 1055.  This increase is not discretionary.**

  

Your application may be denied if you have been convicted of any crimes or entered a nolo contendre plea to any crime other than a minor traffic violation, or if you have ever had a notary commission revoked, suspended or restricted.

  

You will be issued a certificate of appointment when you are commissioned as a notary public.
